Twelve | Step 7

Step Seven invites us into one of the most counterintuitive truths in recovery and in faith: our part is smaller than we think, and harder than we think.

We humbly ask. That is the whole assignment.

Our friend, Destiny, reminds us is in this message that fighting our shortcomings often feeds them, and that the moment we finally admit we cannot do this alone is not the moment we fail. It is the moment things finally begin to change.

Every defect we carry once served a purpose. It protected us, numbed something too painful to feel, and got us through seasons we were not sure we would survive. We can honor that truth and still recognize that what once kept us alive can become the very thing keeping us stuck. The invitation of Step Seven is to stop straining to do God's part and to simply show up, honest and open, and ask.
