Second Chance Sunday & Step 3

Mar 8, 2026

This powerful message centers on the transformative journey of surrender found in Step Three of the 12 Steps: turning our will and our lives over to the care of God.

We hear a gripping testimony of someone standing in the cold at 2 a.m., convinced nobody would miss them, praying desperately for just one more chance to go home. That prayer was answered not with judgment, but with grace—through a friend saying 'go home' and a spouse coming to find them. This story illustrates a profound truth: control is an illusion, but surrender is a strategy. When we white-knuckle our way through life, trying to manage every outcome and fix every problem, we exhaust ourselves doing God's job.

The message draws us to Proverbs 3:5-6, reminding us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not depend on our own understanding. We're challenged to recognize that seeking God's will isn't a one-time decision but a minute-by-minute practice of looking for clues about how God wants us to show up in each situation. The extended Serenity Prayer becomes our roadmap: living one day at a time, accepting hardships as pathways to peace, and trusting that God will make all things right when we surrender.

This isn't about becoming perfect—it's about being rebuilt, brick by brick, prayer by prayer, into who God created us to be.
