Twelve: Step 2
Ever felt like you needed to earn your way back to God? Like you had to rehearse the perfect apology or work off your debt before you could come home?
The Prodigal Son didn't just waste his inheritance—he rehearsed a speech all the way home, ready to negotiate his way back as a servant. But his father interrupted him. He didn't want explanations or promises. He wanted his child back. The robe, the ring, the celebration—none of it was earned. It was given because of his name, not his performance.
Step Two in recovery teaches us that God can restore us to sanity. Not when we're good enough. Not when we've fixed everything. But when we finally stop running and believe He can do what we cannot. Your place at the table isn't based on your performance—it's based on whose child you are.
What speech are you rehearsing? What are you trying to fix before you feel worthy to come home?
