I Never Said That: Introduction
Welcome to the introduction of our brand-new monthly series, "I Never Said That." In this opening session, we explore a vital truth for every believer: how we read, interpret, and tell stories from the Bible fundamentally shapes how we view God, ourselves, other people, and the world around us.
Too often, misconceptions, misunderstandings, and misinterpretations cloud the true message of faith. To combat this, we dive into the basics of what the Bible actually is—not just a singular book, but a diverse library of 66 books spanning different genres, time periods, and human experiences.
Using the framework of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral, we map out the four essential lenses for processing our faith:
Scripture as our foundational ground.
Tradition to see how the historic Church has processed these truths.
Reason to engage the logical minds God gave us.
Experience to see how these truths come alive in our individual journeys.
We also share a quick sneak peek into next month's topic as we tackle the famous phrase: "God will never give you more than you can handle." Discover why an isolated reading of this concept can leave us feeling isolated and weak, and how a proper interpretation points us directly toward the beauty of Christian community.
